12 Blog Entries for Christmas.

I am going to Newfoundland for the next 10 days. I don't know that I will be able to blog regularly so I have compiled for you 12 entries that I did over the past 12 months that I feel are outstanding.

1 The Burlington Ribfest Review. What's could be better than attending the biggest ribfest in the Toronto area? Reading about it mmmmmmmmm.

2 My Dog Chakotay Dies. He had cancer. He died. I cried.

3 Songs The Lord Taught Us. 10 country music songs that will shake your puny world, pilgrim.

4 John R MacArthur of Harpers Mag is an idiot. My first "fisking"; funny, trenchant, topical, pithy etc.

5 Your TV Kung Fu is puny and weak. Fighting isn't ballet and skinny ballerinas can't fight.

6 Have Gun Registry Will Babble. I hate the smug attitude Canadians have about gun control and if you disagree with me I will blow your head off (in Nintendo).

7 The Fan 590's Suicide Attempt. Toronto media hates Toronto sports fans. This post generated so much traffic and discussion (at another site) that I posted a follow up here.

8 Sheila's Legacy. I parody our national anthem. I also hate Sheila Copps.

9 Crime and the Liberal(s) Solutions. Pot possession and the evil Liberal government.

10. Johnny Cash RIP. The man in black inspires a post on my musical roots.


11 Jeb Bush 1, Revolutionary Worker 0. DNA testing solves Mia Zapata's brutal murder. Some people are trying to prevent this. Wankers.


12 Eropuri. The post that started a googleanche!!


Merry Christmas. Thanks for reading. Next year I will be funnier, smarter, and skinnier. I promise.

One Year Ago Today.

Joe Strummer Died (well I think it was one year ago yesterday). Anyway I was early on in my blogging career and wrote what I believe to be one my best entries - an obit to Joe and a general discussion of Punk Rock called I was a punk before you were a punk.

For new readers of the blog this is a good introduction to my early days.

Parallel Universe

Wow! You mean there is another city in North America just like Toronto?

To prove how much smarter they are than you they refuse to write down your order, attempting to just memorize it. It would be impressive if they ever actually got the order right but that’s beside the point. The more fortunate member of this Generation X/Y class still gets that allowance or trust fund from daddy (and always will) so they can devote themselves to full time frivolity, er, "art". They usually get involved in meaningful endeavors like bike collaboratives, art councils or some type or “cause� devoted to the destruction of democracy, capitalism or western civilization

Don't Waste Your Money

Much talk in the local media about 2 weeks ago concerning Canadian figure skating star Jamie Sale's decision to pose topless in FHM magazine.

From Sale's website:: "Guys should know that figure skating is sexy.
There are a lot of beautiful women out there in skimpy, little outfits doing very intimate routines. If I were wearing panties, I'd skate in a French maid's outfit,' says champion figure skater Jamie Sale in the January 2004 issue of FHM, on sale December 9, 2003.

Sale flaunts her figure in FHM in a revealing photo portfolio that shows off her gold-medal attributes (pages 20-22). Sale admits to the magazine she likes to feel sexy and during her shoot for FHM she 'opened up and got into it as we got going. I'm definitely not a shy person.' Adds Sale, 'This year I skated in an outfit with a very, very low front and a short, short skirt. I wore it skating to a Journey song. That was hot.' "

Ok a couple of things.

Guys know that many women figure skaters are hot. Jamie may not remember a certain East German skater who posed in Playboy but ALL guys do. And many men (myself included) are perfectly willing to watch them skate around in their short skirts which blow up at the most opportune time revealing their panties. Like most boring "chick crap" shows though we just prefer to turn the sound off (this also works with Regis and Kelly and all fashion programs)

Figure skaters because of their training have great legs and great behinds (Josee Chouinard's was fantastic) and I have always wished for more sexy photos of figure skaters in magazines like FHM, MAXIM or even Playboy.

Sale's however aren't worth waiting for. I managed to see some of them via the Internet and they're terrible. Sure she is topless, sure she is posing in suggestive poses but she looks so damn serious that it makes you feel uncomfortable. All you can see are her big eyes (and big eyebrows) as they bore right into you.

Plus you would think FHM would be willing to accentuate her greatest "asset" (female athletes aren't known for their breasts). Nope - not in the pictures I saw anyway.

Sale was quoted as saying she didn't think about posing topless but they made her feel so comfortable that they talked her into it. Note to FHM - you couldn't talk her into a smile??

That being said I like the idea overall and I can think of at least one skater in particular I would like to see.
